Davies is the economic theorist responsible for the Uned ('unit' in Welsh), a negative interest complementary currency system he proposed to stimulate economic activity in the moribund Welsh economy, and with economist Chris Cook of the Nordic Enterprise Trust, a proposal to establish the Royal Mint as a capital partnership. A social activist, Davies is the founder and leader of Newid, a progressive political party in Wales.
